Why tintin tends to take the imagination of
children?
Tintin is one of those characters that has ruled the imagination
of children for many years now and is still at it. I am for myself a great
fan of tintin comics for reasons unknown. I just seem to be facinated by
this kid with blond hair that looks so odd, i feel funny someone could live
with such a hair. Of course the hair can make a fashion statement of its
own in case it is looked upon from a different angle. And dear captain haddock
wearing that thick blue t's with a jacket in every comic in itself looks
adoring. It is strange that Herge only invented captain haddock at a very
later phase. Something that really surprises me.
I got my first tintin commic which I was 15 years old (thats too old you
think?). Somehow I was not interested in tintin or any other comic for that
matter until that age. In fact I hated reading.
It was only after I finished
reading my first titin comic (Tintin and the land of black gold) that I
came to realize how interesting reading can be. A passion picked up that
day still remains with me and today I am the proud owner of all tintin comics
herge has written.
The concept of tintin is really great, becuase of many reasons.
firstly tintin seems to make use of a language that makes the whole
comic highly amusing to read. At the same time there is a kind of
bonding with the characters becuase of the fact that things seem to be
real. Then there is the emotional factor that always seems to be there
(for instance 'tintin in tibet'). These are the things that give the
comic a unique look and feel.
There can be some other factors too, like the actual size and shape of
the book. When I read the smaller version of tintin that is available in a
notebook format, i did not enjoy it as much as when I read it on a full
size comic that tintin is available. Similarly, there are the unique
sceneries and extraordinary nature art that makes the comic come alive.
Reading the comic is almost like watching an interesting movie with every
page being a movie sequence. When I sit with a tintin book even today, I
get up only after the entire comic; it feels as if watching a full length
movie.
There are many who have orthodox opinions about reading tintin comics
at an older age. All they say is; "I used to read then way back when I was
a little baby" and I say (in my mind of-course), "oh yeah, right, now buzz
off!!"
